Sarah Palin just announced she is resigning as Alaska Governor to, as she puts it, avoid lame duck status in the final year. The timing is curious as Fridays are usually the day politicians drop potentially bad news, as the story cycle tends to fade over the weekend, and with most on holiday today it should be even more quiet than usual.
Obviously everyone is pointing to this as a sign of her preparing to enter the 2012 GOP presidential race but, considering she is bailing on her one and only term as Governor, I suspect Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Haley Barbour, Mike Huckabee, Tim Pawlenty, etc., are drooling at the chance to paint her as someone who can't finish the job. Or, in these tough economic times, can't stand the heat. I can see the 30-second attack spots already, "She couldn't even finish one term as governor of a small state ... now she wants to run our country?"
Actually, I guess that makes the timing less curious.
Bad move on her part.

Yes, it's Friday but Olbermann is also off for the weekend. He and Letterman are going to have enough comedic material to make last into infinity.
As I understand it, she is going to make Neverland her headquarters. heh heh heh...
I was reading on one site where they were speculating she was tired of the limelight and scrutiny and was just bowing out of politics altogether. Interesting idea. I don't know if I see her going back Wasilla and fading away, as I'm sure she could cash in on book deals, speeches, etc. But hopes of a presidential run in 2012 would seem shot.
I this morning it says the FBI is investigating her for a Ted Stevens like dealy. "Trailer trash" doesn't move out in the middle of the night unless they are running from something or someone.
Yep - she's gonna need cash and lots of it. But not campaign cash for 2012.
I saw that too. Either way, she's probably gone.
Well, Palin certainly has more class and smarts than the current occupier of the White House. Considering Obama is as smart as a glue sniffer druggie, I have no doubt that Palin will succeed, even though those on the nasty left will villify her, no matter what she does.
It would be intresting if she runs for senate and it will add some class to the senate and help out the clueless Harry Reid. Though, running for president will be much better.
I think if you put Palin up against Obama in an IQ test, you wouldn't like the results one bit Dan. But smarts and policies are two different animals.
That said, I still don't see how this will play out to her advantage, at least politically. I mean the options are you resigned because you want to run for the White House (three years from now!) or because a scandal is headed down the pike. Either one stinks.
However, if it is because she is tired of the scrutiny and all, or wants to cash in while still hot, then she will do fine.
Uhh...let's do a reality check here on more "class" and more "smarts"...
Obama is in the White Haus, has AF1, gourmet meals nightly, and a whole cabinet full of people while Palin is out of work and gutting fish in a bait camp in on a lonely stretch of beach Alaska.
Now exactly who's doing the glue sniffing here?
