You probably don't remember Todd Taxpayer, but he started LowerNevadaTaxes.com and made brief splash earlier this year. I had forgotten about him until reading Thomas Mitchell's blog over at the Las Vegas Review-Journal (he's the editor). Apparently Todd's had to shut it down, as it now redirects to the state legislature site.
"I’m told he was served with a cease and desist order Thursday. Being a young, ordinary family man who can’t afford to pay lawyers and sit in depositions the rest of his natural life, he ceased and desisted," writes Mitchell.
At this time there doesn't seem to be any other info on this out there but, if true, what kind of reason could be used for the cease and desist? Bad mouthing politicians?

Was Todd Taxpayer Shut Down By Cease and Desist Order?

Why was he given a cease and desist?
And by whom?
I don't know. Mitchell just mentions it in his post as part of a bigger theme of Carson City bullies. I'm not sure if he heard it from Todd personally or just heard of it. A quick Google search today didn't bring anything else up. If it's true, you would think it would get a little more traction seeing how the LVRJ editor mentioned it (although in his blog and not in the paper near as I can tell). Toddtaxpayer.com is still up, but it was the other site where he posted all his stuff.
I must have read the story wrong, because I got the impression that he was served with the order because he was linking to the legislative site. That would lead me to believe it was the LCB that sent it, and that would be a huge story, in my opinion. After reading this it sounds different, and his evasiveness regarding who sent it and why makes me wonder if it's even true. I've seen one of those, and it makes me think that it certainly can say that he can't talk about it, so I'll reserve judgment, but the Muth connection that I also gleaned from that story makes me think publicity as a tax bill is about to get passed isn't a ridiculous thought.
I asked this person on Twitter who sent the cease and desist and why, and he refused to answer. Instead, he just sends you to a link of his campaign announcement. If you don't talk, people are going to assume it's bullshit.
He did the linking to the legislative site after the alleged C&D. His site had included a lot of podcasts railing on fluoride and taxes. The timing does seem a little convenient, especially since he launched his campaign for State Senate the same day. But like Bob said, if you don't tell even a little bit about your side it comes off as looking like a PR stunt.
I went back and read the comments on the LVRJ story and Mitchell writes that Todd isn't talking to him either. So maybe it is just a stunt.
